On Thursday Mr Henry (one of our governors) who is a part of The Swansea Canal Society came in and talked to us about canals. First of all he gave us pick up sticks to collect rubbish to show us how people help clean up the canal.
Mr Henry told us that a mans best friend is a horse and that men and horses pulled the canal boats full of coal. Mr Henry wanted to show us how hard it was to pull lots of canal barges so used skateboards to help us understand. He first put one of the boys on a skateboard and then picked two girls to sit on the skateboards. Next, he picked two more girls to pull them. We were all really laughing because it was so funny. Teah said that she has been in a canal boat while the gates were opening so he asked teah to demonstrate how the gates worked. She didn't demonstrate it very well but it was really funny. Mr Henry showed us lots of pictures of canals around the country and we learnt that these days they are used for cycling, kayaking, fishing and wildlife. We really enjoyed the visit and hope that Mr Henry comes in again. by kasey and teah
